It’s easy to forget just how great the greatest rock and roll band in the world was.

The fact that a band built on the image of teen narcissism and defiance successfully soldiers on into their seventies perhaps says more about us than them. But, unlike Muhammed Ali — another brilliant 1960s and 70s institution that didn’t know when to quit — nobody gets hurt. It got silly after a while. But, when all is said and done, it’s only rock and roll.
