Three giants — Chet Atkins, Leo Kottke and Doc Watson — got together in what looks like a hotel conference room. Perhaps they had a gig that night. It’s not the best video or audio, but great because of the informality. Just three greats playing some music. A young-looking Kottke looks like he realizes that playing with the other two is the guitarists’ equivalent of winning Lotto. He wrote “The Last Steam Engine Train,” by the way.
I started out trying to pick a Doc Watson tune to post, so below is Doc and Merle Watson performing “Little Sadie.” It’s one of the great songs ever. Versions — more or less — have been done by everyone from John Renbourn to Johnny Cash.
