Taj Mahal and Eric Bibb: “Diving Duck Blues”

Taj Mahal has been around forever. The only thing that seems to have changed is that he gained a bit of weight. He still sounds great.

Mahal released one of the landmark albums of the 1970s. The album (which actually was released in 1969) is physically two records, but really two separate albums. One disc (De Old Folks at Home) is acoustic and the other (Giant Step), is electric. Both records are fabulous. It’s hard to pick one song to feature from each. Take a Giant Step, a song by Gerry Goffin and Carole King is just great. Here is Stagger Lee from the acoustic record.

Here is Madison Street Blues with Etta Baker and My Creole Belle. Here is an interview with Mahal and his site. The website for the Taj Mahal in India probably gets lots of traffic from people trying to find Taj.
